NHS Golden Jubilee has appointed Dr Mark MacGregor as its new Medical Director.

Mark took up post on 16 September 2019 and attended his first meeting of the Board as Medical Director on Thursday 26 September 2019.

Appointed following a rigorous seven-stage recruitment process, he joins NHS Golden Jubilee from NHS Ayrshire & Arran, where he was a Consultant Nephrologist and Interim Medical Director for acute services. A Health Foundation fellow and a former senior medical officer in the Scottish Government, he was also a Non-Executive Director of NHS Golden Jubilee from 2011-2019.

Mark said: “NHS Golden Jubilee is continually striving for excellence and I am delighted to be appointed as Medical Director at an exciting time to help deliver our expansion plans, which will provide benefits for patients across the whole of NHS Scotland.

“As a Non-Executive Director of NHS Golden Jubilee I was fortunate enough to be involved in many innovations and expansions over the past eight years and it is a privilege to continue my involvement in a different capacity.

“I’m looking forward to working alongside our skilled and committed clinical teams delivering high quality, person-centred care to serve the needs of patients from across Scotland, while advancing the field of medicine through world class research and innovation.”

Jann Gardner, Chief Executive of NHS Golden Jubilee, added: “As a valued non-executive member on our board for the past eight years, Mark has helped shape NHS Golden Jubilee’s vision and values.

“Alongside his wealth of experience in clinical practice and medical leadership, this means Mark is extremely well placed to help drive forward and deliver our Board Strategy.

“We look forward to Mark’s professional leadership and management as we work with colleagues across NHS Scotland to deliver care through collaboration.”

Mark was appointed following the retirement of former medical director Dr Mike Higgins.
